betterui.directory is a developer tool that indexes and displays publicly available UI component registries. We believe in minimal data collection and user privacy. This policy reflects our current practices and will be updated as our service evolves.

Information We Collect

Anonymous Usage Data

When you browse betterui.directory, we may collect anonymous usage information including:

  • Page views and navigation patterns
  • Search queries (anonymized)
  • Component, block, and registry view events
  • Browser type and version (user agent)
  • Referrer information (the page you came from)
  • Hashed IP addresses (for anti-spam and deduplication purposes only)

This data is collected to help us understand how the service is used, improve search functionality, and prevent abuse. We do not use this data to identify individual users.

Account Information (Optional)

Creating an account is optional. If you choose to sign in, we collect:

  • Email address (for authentication via Supabase)
  • Account ID (automatically generated)
  • Registry likes and preferences
  • Registry submissions (if you submit a registry for inclusion)
  • Registry claims (if you claim ownership of a registry)

Account creation is only required for certain features like submitting registries, claiming registries, or saving preferences. You can browse the entire directory without creating an account.

Public Registry Data

We index and display publicly available registry data (components, blocks, and metadata) from third-party registries. This data remains owned by its original creators and is displayed in accordance with their public availability. We do not claim ownership of this content.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve the betterui.directory service
  • Enable search functionality and content discovery
  • Prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent activity
  • Understand usage patterns to improve the user experience
  • Process registry submissions and claims
  • Send account-related communications (if you have an account)

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or for any commercial purposes beyond operating the service.

Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Anonymous session tracking (to prevent duplicate view counts)
  • Authentication (if you sign in)
  • Analytics via PostHog (to understand how the service is used)

We use PostHog for analytics, which helps us understand usage patterns and improve the service. PostHog is configured to respect privacy and does not track users across other websites. Analytics data is processed through our own infrastructure (via an `/ingest` proxy) to maintain control over data flow.

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not participate in advertising networks or share data with advertisers.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate betterui.directory:

  • Supabase: Provides authentication services. When you sign in, Supabase processes your email address for authentication purposes. See Supabase's privacy policy for their data practices.
  • PostHog: Provides analytics services. Analytics data is processed through our infrastructure to maintain privacy control.
  • PostgreSQL (via Prisma): Our database service stores all application data, including anonymous usage data and account information.

These services are necessary for the operation of betterui.directory. We choose service providers that align with our privacy values and maintain appropriate data security measures.

Data Retention

We retain data for as long as necessary to provide the service and comply with legal obligations:

  • Anonymous usage data: Retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement purposes, but stored in aggregated or anonymized form.
  • Account information: Retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time, which will remove your personal information (email, likes, submissions, claims) from our systems.
  • Public registry data: Retained as long as the registry remains publicly available and indexed in our directory.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:

  • Data is stored in secure databases with access controls
  • Authentication is handled through Supabase's secure authentication system
  • IP addresses are hashed before storage to prevent identification
  • We use industry-standard security practices to protect against unauthorized access

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

betterui.directory is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at admin@betterui.directory and we will take steps to remove that information.

Registry Ownership and Claims

betterui.directory indexes publicly available registries. The content of these registries (components, blocks, descriptions, etc.) remains owned by their original creators. We display this content to help developers discover UI components.

If you are the owner of a registry indexed in our directory, you may claim ownership through our registry claiming feature. Once verified, you will have access to analytics and management features for your registry. Claiming a registry requires creating an account and verifying ownership.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You can request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account at any time, which will remove your personal information from our systems.
  • Correction: You can update your account information through your account settings.
  • Opt-out: You can browse the site without creating an account, which minimizes data collection.
